Ryan put his team together by asking for volunteers on his Face Book page. Friday his team layer mulch, and gave a fresh coat of paint to both the schools entrances and large map on the basketball court at South Wayne Elementary. Ryan says “United Way does a great thing for our community and if you dont get people out there to volunteer, things like this dont get done.” Ryan says being the team captain without the financial backing of a business was a challenge. “A lot of companies had gotten to donators before me. They would tell me they had already donated, but eventually everything ended up working out.” The Principle of South Wayne Elementary, Timothy Bobay, says seeing people work so hard for his students is heart warming. “Its really such a kind, good feeling in our hearts to know we have the support of the community.” Ryan says the work done at South Wayne and across the city exemplifies this years Day of Caring motto. “Like the motto Live United, it brings people together.” The Principal has already gotten some positive feedback from his students. Bobay says “Weve already had some kids drive by on their bicycles and say "look at the school colors," so I think they will be excited. I think it will add extra excitement and energy to the first day of school.” Ryan says he will consider putting another group together next year. Nearly 55 teams volunteered today. 45 of those teams were sponsored by local businesses.
