Back to school shopping can definitely be a tough task, but thanks to a partnership between Platos Closet and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana, its a lot easier to get back into gear. Platos closet and Big Brothers Big Sisters have partnered up for the first ever “Backpacks for Kids” program. “We wanted to give back to the community with the economy down” says Fort Wayne Plato’s Closet owner, Brandon Jones. From now until then end of August, head into the Fort Wayne Plato’s Closet to help put backpacks back on the backs of kids, so to say. “Its not just backpacks, its school supplies, its clothing, whatever they identified to help the kids” says Jones. And theyll match your donation dollar for dollar. “There is no set match whatever we get will go into the fund” adds Jones. Big Brothers Big Sisters serves over 1800 families, 400 here in Allen County “Education is so important to out families and our children” says Fort Wayne B.B.B.S.’s Community Development Coordinator, Rosalyn Wynne. Jones adds to that by saying “the kids are the ones who feel the impact and cant do anything.” Both Jones and Wynne say that this program is needed now more than ever. Wynne says that “theres so many families in need, so many losing their jobs and their homes, and jobs are downsizing.” So far there has been a great response to the new program. “Theyre excited that someones doing this to be able to help them” Wynne says with a smile.
