The Townhouse Retirement Community in Ft. Wayne has started a new tradition, it is bringing the farmers market to its residents instead of taking residents to the farmers market.
Natalie Phish organized the market for residents. Phish says in her work with seniors, she has learned they can be active when given the right "spark." Phish says the farmers market encourages seniors who have not left their homes for days to come out and to interact. Seniors often end up bargaining for good prices which helps them to be active.
"It makes their day and in turn makes my day," said vendor Ron Fries who sells corn from his farm.
Phish hopes to have as many as two dozen vendors for the market eventually. The market is held on the first and third Thursday of the month from 3pm-7pm at the Townhouse Retirement Community on St. Joe Center Road.
