Police know little about the man who stole a large amount of money from the Ossian Hardware store. The stores surveillance video caught the thief in action. He entered the back door of the business, and then made his way upstairs to the office. One minuet later he was out the back door with a large sum of money. Eventt Norris, the owner of the Do It Best in Ossian says, “We were pretty busy at the time with customers loading and unloading, A few other customers in the store. And he obviously slipped through the back and we didnt see him.” Police say theyre not sure how the man knew to go up to the office. The company says theyve never seen the man. The owner doubts the thief cased his business prior to stealing the money. Norris says “Ive never seen him before. My wife and I went through our surveillance system for several days and weeks before. It never caught him through the store at any point.” Police say the thief went to several businesses Monday morning. He was only successful at the hardware store. Sergeant Ron Galaviz of the Indiana State Police says “Its my understanding that this person then visited a couple other businesses in the area and used the same method of operation, by entering the back door. In those cases he was met by employees.” Norris says the money was sitting out on the desk. He didnt notice it was gone until an hour later. If you have any information that can help police catch the thief, contact Trooper Jason House at 260-432-8661 or 1-800-552-0976
