breaking news
A freight train heading from Chicago to Binghamton , New York , took a bit of a detour today. A Norfolk Southern train, carrying truck trailers, was passing through Butler , IN when half of its 20 cars derailed. It happened just after 5AM. Investigators aren't sure what caused the derailment. No one was hurt, but the accident caused major delays. “Our rail line between Cleveland and Chicago is probably the busiest line on our system, carrying more than 100 freight trains a day. So anytime there's an instance like this, there's an effect. We've had to re-route some trains and some others are just holding in yards” says Rudy Husband, Director of Public Relations for Norfolk Southern. Many curious drivers lined the side of County Road 61 to catch a glimpse, some for quite a while, including Walt Dorner, who sat for 3 hours watching crews move the wreckage. “I just enjoy watching them cleanup the train wrecks when the heavy equipment comes in and moves everything and cleans everything up” says Dorner. Late this afternoon, crews were able to get one track open again. They'll continue working until the other track is also back up.
