It's easy to laugh when you hear a joke, listen to a comedian, or watch a funny movie, but could you simply burst into laughter for absolutely no reason at all? “Some people say ‘aren't you afraid that people will think you're crazy because you laugh so much?’” says Lee Wilcher, a certified expert of Laughter Yoga, a revolutionary exercise that teaches you to laugh your way to a healthier life. “At first I just didn't know that to think of it. I was like ‘why are these people smiling at me?’” says Wilcher. Wilcher says just 20-minutes, of even fake laughter, can give a positive boost to your life and well-being. He’s done Laughter Yoga for cancer patients, those with Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's patients, kids, and senior citizens. Wilcher says each Laughter Yoga session, which can last anywhere from 15-minutes to 1 ½-hours can make you feel more relaxed and can even help you sleep better. There are three types of laughter yoga: 1-Playful Yoga, which is just to make people laugh 2-Yogic Laughter, which uses a particular yogic pose 3-Life-Affirming Laughter Vesta Clough, 93-years-old, has lived a long, fruitful life, but something was always missing. “When I was raised, my family, we were too serious. I think my husband and I were serious and I thought so much that I wish we would have had more laughter in our family” says Clough. “It just touches my heart to know that is makes her feel that much better, it makes me feel better” says Wilcher. So is laughter really the best medicine? Just ask Vesta, who thanks to this new exercise has learned to laugh once again. To find out how to get involved with Laughter Yoga contact Lee Wilcher at 260-403-7745 or via email at leewilcher@yahoo.com.
