Overcrowding at Wayne High School was a hot topic among parents and Fort Wayne Community School Board President Mark GiaQuinta tonight.

GiaQuinta took issue with recent reports on FOX Fort Wayne that complaints about overcrowding had caused Fire Marshal Jim Murua to investigate.

But, some parents complained that the closure of Elmhurst high had caused the overcrowding in the first place.

A letter was written by Fort Wayne Fire Chief Pete Kelly to Mark GiaQuinta last week. In the letter, Kelly talks about Fort Wayne fire Marshall Jim Murua’s visit to Wayne High School on September. Kelly says that the visit was to follow up on "anonymous reports of potential overcrowding.”

Kelly also says that “a couple classrooms had one or two many students.”  Tonight GiaQuinta responded to the letter. He says that overcrowding complaints have been blown out of proportion.

Several parents and community members fired back at the board. They voiced their anger towards overcrowding and the current state of the district’s high schools.
