Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck will headline a rally Saturday in Angola. He's invited Republican congressional candidate Marlin Stutzman to join him.

But that's sparked some criticism from Stutzman's Democratic opponent.

Tom Hayhurst says he doesn't have a problem with Glenn Beck coming to Indiana.

“I love to listen to what all players in the political and governmental world have to say,” said Hayhurst.

But the Democrat running for Congress does have a problem with his opponent taking part. Hayhurst says Republican Marlin Stutzman is not a real conservative.

“I'm trying very vigorously to point out the difference between what he says and does,” said Hayhurst.

Hayhurst points to a 2009 vote when the Indiana State Legislature raised unemployment insurance rates.

“My opponent did vote for the largest business tax increase in the last couple of decades at least,” said Hayhurst.

But Stutzman says Hayhurst is distorting the facts.

“Dr. Hayhurst is twisting information and is really following Nancy Pelosi's lead out of Washington,” said Stutzman.

Stutzman says the state didn't have enough money coming in, and that it had to increase unemployment insurance rates. Otherwise, he says, the federal government would have taken over.

Stutzman also says it was not a tax.

“He's twisting the truth for political points, and he's not telling the entire story,” said Stutzman.

Stutzman says he looks forward to Saturday's rally with Beck.

“It's not that I agree with everything that Glenn Beck believes or says or does,” said Stutzman. “But I think that it's more important that here we have a figure like him that is coming to northeast Indiana, and it's more about building relationships with the people that live in our community.”

The rally will take place at Trine University in Angola on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hayhurst says he will not be at the event.
