East Allen County School Superintendent Karyle Green has recommended closing six schools. That’s part of a major overhaul that also includes rearranging classes and even building new schools.

The overhaul was originally supposed to start this school year. Now it won't begin until the 2011-2012 school year.

The plan is not one of the five previously proposed by Green. With this plan, the following schools will close:

Harlan Elementary                                                                                            Hoagland  Elementary                                                                                                                                                                 Meadowbrook Elementary                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Monroeville Elementary

Village Elementary

Woodburn Elementary

Previous plans estimated savings around $6-million. This plan won't reach that.  Green hopes the tax referendum will pass this November, adding $8-million into the pot.

The school board still needs to vote on the plan. That will take place on October 5th. Over the next two weeks, Dr. Green will make several presentations of this recommendation.

All meetings are open to the public. See below for dates and times.
