The East Allen County School Board has just authorized closing six schools and reconfiguring most of the other schools in the district. Itís part of a major district redesign.
The board voted 6-to-1 to okay the plan.
In addition to closing schools, classes will be rearranged and new schools will be built.
The overhaul is expected to save the district close to $7-million-per-year.
Tonightís vote was only for the final design, not how to get there.
The transition will be discussed step-by-step over the next several months.
While a few community members tonight spoke in favor of the plan, many stepped up to microphone to speak out against it.
