"It Gets Better"

By: Nadia Bashir
Updated: October 6, 2010

"It Gets Better" is a national campaign aimed at preventing suicide among gay & lesbian teens that has an Indiana connection. It was launched after fifteen-year-old Billy Lucas committed suicide in Greensburg, IN, after allegedly being bullied for being gay.

Gay columnist and advocate Dan Savage launched "It Gets Better" after hearing about Lucas' death. The campaign consists of hundreds of video diaries posted on YouTube bearing personal stories of bullying and survival. Many celebrities have joined the campaign.

Earlier this week FOX Fort Wayne News reported on the death of a North Side High School teen that has become part of the national debate on gay bullying.

Nice to see that one of the news channels is doing something about the gay bullying and trying to get the word out. Today we lost another young man, freshman at Wayne, a victim of assumed gay bullying. This is 2 young men in less than 2 weeks.

We need to stop this madness and teach our kids to love others for who they are.
