Many local brides and grooms have faced their wedding halls closing down before the big day. Since 2009, The Summit Club, The Landmark Conference & Reception Centre & The Grey Goose in Decatur have closed down due to financial issues. (The Landmark Centre recently reopened under new ownership. The new owners have said they would like to work with any customers of the old owner to solve problems & hope not to be tarred with the old owner's reputation).
FOX Fort Wayne News got some tips on how to wedding plan and protect yourself if a business fails. The Better Business Bureau recommends having a back-up plan for the major aspects of your wedding such as location, catering and clothing. It also recommends looking for businesses that have been in business for many years saying those are less likely to shut down.
Another option is wedding insurance. A policy can cost around $200 and will cover any money lost if a business shuts down unexpectedly.
