Fort Wayne City Council rejected the $4.5 million bid to renovate Renaissance Square. But a procedural tactic from Council president Marty Bender has opened the door for a reconsideration of the bid.
Controversy has recently swirled around the City's process for awarding bids. The bid in question was awarded based on the lowest base amount rather than the overall lowest bid.
Only eight of the nine council members were present at the meeting (Councilman Tom Didier was absent). The original vote tied 4-4. The resolution needed five votes to pass. However, Councilman Bender who originally voted yes changed his vote to no which allows for a reconsideration vote.
City Clerk Sandra Kennedy says the bid will be reconsidered at the next regular session meeting.
