Democrat Congressional Candidate for the 3rd District, Tom Hayhurst and his volunteers, have made 80,000 calls, asking voter for their support.

Election Day is less than a week away, and Hayhurst is out knocking on door for a final push. Hayhurst says “One group we focus on a lot are swing voters. People that maybe voter intermittently or move back and forth from one party to another.”

A poll released by the News Sentinel this week shows Hayhust's Republican opponent, Marlin Stutzman, in the lead. Hayhurst says “I think frankly that poll is totally bogus, period. I mean they have something like a quarter of the respondents in that poll were from one county, on the other side of the congressional district. It looks to me like a very sloppy poll.”

Hayhurst was quick to criticize Stutzman while telling voters his goals in office.  Hayhurst says “Marlin Stutzman and Mark Souder have worked hand and hand and they've done nothing. I'm going to work across the isle to rebuild the Northeast Indiana economy and bring back a lot more jobs and a lot better jobs.”

He also says he supports Medicare and better healthcare for veterans. Hayhurst says “I'm a strong supporter of Medicare. You hear a lot of folks out there saying get the government out of health care. I think there is a vigorous assault in place right now to wind down Medicare and my opponent is part of that process.”

Hayhurst says he and 1,000 volunteers will continue making calls and going door to door over the next few days. He also says his campaign will transport people to the polls on Election Day if they need it.
