Two are dead, Jaquan Gentry and Jeffery Moore. Three others have been wounded this week in a string of gang related shootings. Fort Wayne Police Chief, Rusty York, says they've seen an increase in gang activity in the past month and a half. York says “It's been a continual problem not only in Fort Wayne, but nationwide. I would say certainly over the past week the violence has increased.”
Just this week Demetrius Masterson was taken to jail on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness for a drive-by shooting that happened on Spatz Avenue last week. No one was injured in that drive-by, but police found 15 empty shell casings and 12 bullet holes in the victim's house.Materson was one of the men shot at Rick'O Shay's on Sunday.
The chief says the department has a good idea of who's behind the string of shootings. York says “As we speak people are being incarcerated, maybe for other charges maybe not the charges involving this particular shooting.”
York says they're working to get those involved in custody before others get hurt. York says “That's a scary thing because there's always that potential. That's always a danger when you have irresponsible people with firearms.”
A memorial service will be held at Rick O'Shay's for the two men killed, on Sunday.
