Local Soldier Killed In Action

Staff Sgt. Kevin Matthew Pape, 30, of Fort Wayne, was killed by enemy forces on Nov. 16, during a heavy firefight while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan. He was a 1998 Concordia Lutheran High School graduate.
FOX Fort Wayne News spoke with Pape's high school economics teacher, Tibor Bierbaum, says Pape was a quiet student whom he enjoyed having in class. Bierbaum also says he liked Pape very much.
Pape did not participate in the ROTC in high school according to Bierbaum who was the head of the ROTC program at Concordia Lutheran H.S. for 21-years.
Pape is survived by his wife Amelia Rose Pape, his daughter Anneka Sue, both of Savannah, Ga., and his father Marc Dennis Pape of Fort Wayne, Ind.
According to the U.S. Army Special Operations Command Public Affairs Office, Pape was a squad leader assigned to 1st Bn., 75th Ranger Regiment at Hunter Army Airfield, Ga. He was on his sixth deployment in support of the Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom with three previous deployments to Iraq and two to Afghanistan.
