Convicted murder, Scott Pattison, will be behind bars for 60 years for killing his wife, Lisa Pattison. Pattison sat on his wife’s stomach while she was on a weight bench and let the weight bar suffocate her.

It was a packed court room. Deputies lined the walls, and there wasn't an empty seat. Lisa's family says they knew all along Scott killed her. They also say they're happy with the length of the sentence. Christine Smith, Lisa’s sister says “The family is really grateful for today's sentencing. We're very very happy and we feel a lot of closure with it.”

William Heartly, the Wabash County Prosecutor Attorney, says “Very satisfied with the sentence. This doesn't bring Lisa back, but it hopefully gives some justice for Lisa's family.”

Family and friends told the judge Lisa’s death had a dramatic impact on their lives. Her sister says “We just wanted to make sure he understood that this whole time we always had got the feeling that he had done something. We don't want anyone to forget Lisa.”

Lisa's son Dillon wrote a letter. In it he told Scott Pattison to write the family an apology and explain why he killed his mother.

Before the sentence was given, the Judge told Pattison the impact he made was beyond normal and that he had left Dillon without a parent.

Pattison plans to appeal the ruling.

Pattison filed for a mistrial Thursday morning. The judge did not say much about that today in court. The prosecuting attorney could not comment on a possible mistrial, but said it will be discussed in the next few weeks.
