Autopsies were conducted today on a Kosciusko County man and his girlfriend's mother.

Yesterday an argument between Adam Jarrett and his girlfriend spiraled into a murder-suicide. The girlfriend's mother went to pick up her daughter from Jarrett’s home in Leesburg. Jarrett killed the mother then killed himself, all while the couple's child sat in a car nearby.

“You can't control anybody you know. Everyone has their own actions” says Wayde Miller, who lives just down the street from yesterday's horrific scene.

It happened on Armstrong Road in Leesburg.

30-year-old Jarrett and his girlfriend 24-year-old Erin Siefert were arguing.

It quickly became heated. Jarrett called Siefert's mom Penny.  He told her to come get her daughter.

When the mom arrived she saw her daughter fleeing the house. Seconds later Jarrett began shooting. Shotgun pellets grazed Siefert but she wasn't hurt. When Siefert ran back into the house, Jarrett shot and killed her mom, 44-year-old Penny Savage.

He then shot and killed himself.

You can't really explain what they do or how they think’ says Miller.

Jarrett and Siefert's 2-year-old son  was in a car nearby, but he wasn't harmed.

Neighbors tell FOX Fort Wayne that the area is relatively safe, so safe in fact that

up until now many leave their doors unlocked.

"It really surprises me. This is a good neighborhood and I don't

even lock car doors. Obviously I’m going to now" Miller says.

"It's a pretty residential area. We don't get many predominant calls there” says Kosciusko County Sergeant Chad Hill.

Hill is surprised by that it happened in this neighborhood, but he isn't surprised that it happened this time of year.

"Suicides during the holiday season predominantly rise in November and December. Sometimes it's a depression-type thing” Hill says.

FOX Fort Wayne learned that both Jarrett and Siefert had been arrested earlier

this year. Both were charged with disorderly conduct. Jarrett was also arrested a few years ago for possession of marijuana.

The autopsy results aren't expected to be released until next week.
