Unemployment Insurance Hikes

Unemployment insurance rates are going up for Hoosier businesses at the first of the new year. Many say they are unfairly footing a large bill. Indiana currently owes the federal government $1.9 billion which it has borrowed to pay unemployment benefits.
Work One estimates 160K people on unemployment currently in Indiana. About 90K of those are on federal extension of unemployment, the rest are being paid for by the state.
Indiana is not alone in borrowing federal dollars. More than 30 states have borrowed money to pay benefits to the total of about $40 billion.
