The city of fort wayne is a perfect venue for the program.

"The sports buddies program is a new program here at Big Brothers Big Sisters and we take the male kids 13-17 to different sporting events around the Fort Wayne area. We go to local TinCaps games, MadAnts, we're going to go to Komets games. We also go to college games, IPFW and st. Francis," said Kuhn.

The program is aiming to get more people involved.

"It's a good way for the kids to go out and interact with a volunteer. They get one on one time. There's over 600 kids that needs to be matched. And this is one of the programs here at big brothers big sisters to get the kids matched," expressed Kuhn.

The youth in the program are excited and greatful.

"I have no one to play with except friends so my mom signed me up. I really like it. I got more confidence, made some friends. I've signed up for a lot of sports since," said Alan Smith, one of the program's youth.

Getting involved is a memorable experience.

"It will change your life, when you get to know these kids, and hear their stories, they're wonderful kids. When you see a kid smile and take them out and have fun and try something new and going out with and playing sports with the kids, it's going to cheer the people up a lot," Kuhn said.

"If you like sports then you should do the buddy program, you should just do the program," expressed Smith.

Volunteers are still needed as well as big brothers. If interested please call 260-456-1600.
