"We're kind of talking about what we have to do to be competitive in the S.A.C. and at some point win the thing," said Head Coach Eddie Fields.
"We've had our good years, our bad years. this year I think we can do something special. Some years we didn't work as hard as we should have. We've always had a lot of talent but we just didn't live up to our potential. It's not about the way you fall, it's about the way you bounce back," said Senior Damari Starks.
Coach Fields says there is a lot to expect from South Side this year.
"Hopefully we'll see a competitve group, the kids have worked hard all summer. we play with a level of expectations as far as working hard and a ccountability. I really think with this group of kids we're going to get a great effort. I talk to them all the time about three things. one, win the hussle battle, two: be a great teammate and three be smart. I think those three things will get a lot out of them," Fields assured.
"I see a lot of potential like I said before we have a lot of key players that bring a lot to the table and I think we can have a great season with them," said Starnks.
The players think that their practices have been beneficial.
"Mostly conditioning but we've been working on the offense, defense. I think we're a really well rounded team," said Senior Jordan Joyner.
"We really play a running type game, so we strive to be conditioned. and our defense and offense are really fast," said Joyner.
"like I said a lot of fundamentals, a lot of running a lot of conditioning, just trying to get us in shape for friday nights," said Starks.
Although south side didn't return many seniors coach fields says their leadership is valued.
"I'm actually really impressed with the leaders. we returned two guys on offense and 3 on defense. the guys we have are stepping up and doing what we ask them. they're being accountable to the system. their binding in with what we're doing. I'm really impressed with the seniors. they may be new to the starting role but they have leadership experience and experience in doing things the right way," said Fields.
"Great leaderships, I couldn't ask for better leaders, me, Jordan, Tim, Curtis Williams, great leaders, we show by example, we talk the talk and we walk the walk," expressed Starks.
