Tracy Trevino is a Girl Scout leader and the mother of a Girl Scout. She was upset by Fort Wayne state Representative Bob Morris's claims that the organization has a pro-homosexuality and pro-abortion agenda. Trevino says she took her response to facebook. Trevino said "I've been posting everything positive I can so people know what Girl Scouts is really like."
In a letter Morris stated he did some online research that showed quote, "Abundant evidence proves that the agenda of Planned Parenthood includes sexualizing young girls through the girl scouts, which is quickly becoming a tactical arm of Planned Parenthood." Morris says he doesn't have a problem with local troops, rather the national organization. Girl Scout officials say claims that they are pro-homosexual and pro-abortion aren't true.
Trevino says in her experience the organization bas been transparent. She said "If we would go on a field trip anywhere, anything outside of where the parents drop them off we have to have the parents sign a permission slip approving of any field trip we go on."
Trevino hopes Morris's negative statements don't cloud the good things the Girl Scouts do. She says Morris has a false understanding of the organization and she offered to let him sit in on their meeting. Trevino said "I am really trying to keep it very positive. I don't believe he understands what Girl Scouts is all about and he would be more than welcome to come to any of our meetings and we'd like to show him."
Trevino is not alone; we spoke with a handful or troop leaders and parents who say Morris is out of line.
