Two people are dead in what police call a murder-suicide.

Kosciusko county sheriff's officers say a Milford man chased his ex-wife to a Leesburg convenience store, shot her, then took his own life.

It occurred just after 5:30 this morning, when police responded to the shooting inside Katie's Kwikmart.

They found Luselva Saavedra with a bullet wound in her shoulder, and her ex-husband Ruben Saavedra escaping in his red pickup truck.

He went south to the ivy tech community college parking lot, where just before six, they found him parked with a gunshot wound in the head.

Sheriff's officers say Luselva ran into Katie's Kwikmart in Leesburg to escape her ex-husband, Ruben.

She pleaded with the store clerk to save her, and jumped behind the counter-- before her ex-husband entered the store with a handgun, and shot Luselva in the shoulder.

Another employee, Deanna Gerbin, describes the scene as surreal.

"She was the only one here. And she just ran in and was like- call 911. And she was like panicking, didn't know what to do. She told me she got scared, so she went to get her, she said she had mace in her coat. But then she said that she heard the gunshot. And then, she was just checking her, and wasn't paying attention to what he was doing," Gerbin says.

Sherriff's officers arrived shortly after, and found Ruben in the ivy tech parking lot, dead.

Luselva was airlifted to Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, where she died this afternoon.

"The officer maintained constant visual with the vehicle until other officers could arrive. As they approached the vehicle, it was determined the actual driver, which was later identified as the suspect from the shooting, was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head," Hill says.

Ivy tech postponed classes for several hours this morning, and resumed around noon.

Officers say the two were neighbors inside a mobile home park in Milford.

Sergeant Hill said the couple has two children, and they were with other family members when the shooting occurred.

He said neither Ruben nor Luselva had a criminal history, and there is no record of any domestic disputes before this incident.
