Allen County Commissioner Nelson Peters and Republican challenger John McGauley spoke to local republicans Thursday night about how they would move the county forward.

The forum was hosted by the Allen County GOP Women, and gave the public an opportunity to ask the candidates questions about their plans for county government.

McGauley currently serves as the Allen County Recorder -- the department responsible for organizing and retaining documents. He says his experience streamlining that office has given him the know-how to streamline county government as a whole.

"We inherited a process [at the recorder's office] that was taking 69 days at the time to drive a piece of paper in the front door and out the back. That process now takes one day," said McGauley.

Two-term incumbent peters says he's created efficiencies as well through projects such as helping merge the city-count 911 system and planning departments.
