Identity theft has become the fastest growing crime in the 21st century, and the Indiana State Police are joining forces with agencies like the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Better Business Bureau of Northern Indiana (BBB) to combat this growing problem.

The State Police, U.S. Postal Inspectors, the BBB and 3Rivers Federal Credit Union are coming together for a "Shred It Day." It will be held on Thursday, June 28 from 11 am - 2 pm at the 3Rivers Credit Union branch located at 3750 E. Dupont Rd in Fort Wayne.

A mobile shredder will be provided by Iron Mountain Incorporated for the public to bring unused or unwanted papers, credit cards or other such materials that contain personal information to be destroyed free of charge.

Andrew Gottfried, U.S. Postal Inspector, said, "the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, BBB, 3Rivers Federal Credit Union and Indiana State Police hope that "Shred It Day" serves as a reminder of its importance because dumpster drivers truely do exist and it's up to you to be proactive."
