The cooling stations set up throughout the city are just one way people can beat the heat.  Today the mayor announced he is waiving admission to city pools.

"Certainly there are a number of residents that do not have air conditioning and as the weather has been hot for a consistent period of time and we are expecting temperatures over 100 today-that's a concern," said frank Suarez, director of public information.

Many took advantage of the free admission and spent the day in the water.

"The heat, its super hot and I'm having a great time with my family, said Eduardo Nieto.

North side pool saw about 300 people within its first hour and by mid-afternoon all three public pools were at capacity.

"It will be busy it will get a little tight with cramped quarters but we'll get you in and you will have a great day," said Jenny Barney, the lead aquatics director for parks and recreation.

Admission will be free through tomorrow at north side from 12:30 to 9pm.    Memorial pool from 12:30 to 5pm and Mcmillen pool will be open from 1:30 to 7pm.
