Man Identified in Fatal House Fire

The 84 year-old man that died in Monday's house fire has now been identified. John L. Shirey, of Fort Wayne, has been identified by a fingerprint comparison and the next of kin has been notified.
The cause of death was thermal burns and smoke inhalation. The fire was ruled an accident. Investigators say the fire broke out in the man's kitchen. Crews responded to the 700 block of Dewald Street around five o'clock Monday morning. When they entered the home, they found Shirey lying unconscious on the first floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department and the Allen County Coroner's Office are continuing the investigation.
