The Indiana State Senate race is starting to heat up. The 16th District democratic candidate for state Senate is calling out 16th district incumbent Senator and Senate President David Long, saying that his failing in his role and that it is time for him to go.
State Senate Candidate Tom Keen took jabs a Senator David Long today, claiming that he is partly responsible for Allen County taxpayers losing hundreds of thousands of dollars to maintain the now vacant Pleasant Center Elementary School building.
Last year, the district approved handing the vacant building over to the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. But the Indiana General assembly passed a law that says districts must hold the buildings for 4 years to give charter schools a chance to buy them.
The charter association says the transfer would have violated that law and is suing FWCS. Senator Long says the fact that the district has to maintain a vacant building is through no fault of the bill.
Keen says he feels that he can do better for Hoosiers than Long has done. Long says he is optimistic about the upcoming election. Both candidates say they would be open to a debate.
