Since mid-July the two men police believe are responsible have mostly been after one item--Diablo 3 a pc video game retailing for about $60.
"The amount stolen is $12, 702.44 that has been stolen from these 22 Walmart stores," said Stacy Sexton, a detective with the Auburn Police Department.
Stacy says the game the suspects after is sealed at all Walmart-stores with a security device to deter thefts, but it didn't stop these guys.
These two suspects had stolen a key to a security device that goes on electronic items or other high dollars items.
Sexton says he's tried going after the robbers through several online retailers to try and track the suspects down...but that strategy did not go as planned.
"I've attempted to go on eBay and craigslist and try and locate these games but there are just so many out there it would kind of be lie trying to find a needle in a haystack," said Sexton.
Police don't have a lot of information about the suspects but describe them as two whites males, one tall and slender and the other shorter and heavier. Sexton says the two guys also tend to dress alike. Surveillance video does shows the car used in all 22 robberies.
"We know they've been coming in and leaving in a four door black bmw," said Sexton.
The most recent robbery was this past Sunday. Two stores were robbed for almost $1,000.
Sexton added that he only knows of Walmart stores being hit but he has reason to believe other retailers have also been targeted.
