Residents of a north Fort Wayne apartment complex are shaken up as police search for whoever blasted a car apart with the force of a half-pound of TNT.

The bomber used an improvised explosive device, or IED.

No one was hurt in the explosion, which blew out windows and scattered car windows.

WFFT spoke with residents of the Coliseum Park Apartments.

Many of them say they no longer feel safe.

"I got woken up by a big, big boom. The first thing that came to my mind was, oh gosh, a car has crashed into the building," says Dannae Lewis.

"It was a large flash of light, and really loud, really low, and it was scary," says Brock, who lives in the complex.

Fort Wayne Police say the car had been rigged with explosives.

"The roof of the car was actually blown up and bent backwards. Found out that the windshield was on top of the building. I did see a baby seat in the back, that had been blown up as well. I found out there was two of them in there," says Shawn Lindsey.

The explosion blew out the windows of an empty unit and sent car windows onto the roofs of nearby buildings.

A police investigation confirmed it was what they call an IED, with the force of a half-pound of TNT.

"That could range from something as small as a pipe bomb, or a bottle bomb, to something very big like what we discovered inside that vehicle that early morning," says Fort Wayne Police Department Public Information Officer Raquel Foster.

Police say no one was hurt.

"We believe this vehicle was targeted. We don't know the motive right now, but that's going to be part of the investigation," Foster says.

Neighbors say they're shocked.

"I'm moving, that's the last, I can't anymore. I'm moving because of that," says Teresa Bush.

"Personally, I thought this was a safe neighborhood and a safe community and after this, it's kind of shocking to think that it'll happen right behind our apartment," says Ashleigh Smoot.

"That's pretty scary because I park my car like two cars down from where it actually happened, the explosion. So it's pretty scary," Lewis says.

Police say they have no suspects right now, but they are working with FBI and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms agents in the investigation.

They say the car was a 1999 Black Buick Regal and police urge anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers at 436-7867.
