Fort Wayne homeowners will probably pay more in property taxes next year.
Fort Wayne Community Schools is proposing a tax hike in its 2013 budget. The budget would increase taxes more than three percent.
Monday, the community had the chance to weigh in on the increase, but no one spoke out on either side of the issue.
The nearly $279-million budget proposal is a 5-percent jump from the 2012 budget.
If approved, an owner of a $100, 000 home would be paying roughly $33 more next year.
Money from the tax hike will pay for building renovations.
"As far as the academics of the schools, I don't think parents will notice many changes. We haven't changed any class sizes. Students will still get the same supports that they were getting this year" says FWCS CFO Kathy Friend.
The school board will vote on the 2013 budget on October 22. It will then go to the state for approval.
