A former South Adams Elementary School principal made his first court appearance Friday.  He was arrested Thursday night on multiple charges stemming from an inappropriate relationship with a former student while he was a teacher in the South Central Community School Corporation.

40-year old Brian Strauss is sitting in the LaPorte County Jail.  He's charged with sexual misconduct with a minor, vicarious sexual gratification, and child solicitation.  Earlier this month he resigned from his post as principal at South Adams Elementary School officials say he cited personal reasons and did say he was being investigated but did not give specifics.

Parents say since all they do not know how to feel. The superintendent says when Strauss came here to South Adams Elementary a couple of years ago he came highly recommended and he went through a thorough background check.  He says there has been no cause for concern.

Court documents paint a very different picture.  They say Strauss started online correspondence with a former student in 2008.  Documents say by 2009, when she was 15 and he was 37, Strauss fondled the girl and vice versa.  Court documents allege they had more sexually inappropriate contact.

In Strauss' interview with police he said he made an attempt to discontinue the relationship but he continued it because he enjoyed receiving the attention.

The investigation into Strauss was launched after receiving a tip about the inappropriate relationship.  Strauss is being held on $35,000 bond.
