Homeowners living in the Fort Wayne Community Schools district will pay more in property taxes next year.

The district approved a tax hike in its 2013 budget tonight, but the increase isn't as much as originally proposed.

A few months ago local residents gave the district the go ahead on a 119 million project. The money will be used to renovate Fort Wayne Community school buildings.

The owner of a $100,000 home will be paying an additional $20 a year.  It's a sizeable jump, but it's not as big as it could have been.

Originally it was going to be an extra $33 dollars. That $33 would go to pay for the renovation project plus a few other smaller building projects.

The school board voted tonight though to put the smaller projects on hold.

The budget will now head to the state for approval. A determination is expected to be made in February.
