Come election night while many may be glued to their TVs, others will be fixated on Facebook and tied to Twitter.

"I think this is the first election where we're really seeing social media impact things just in a large way" says John Kaufeld, a local social media expert.

From tweets to Facebook statuses to YouTube ads, it's hard to escape politics this campaign season.

"I think that up until probably the last presidential election, the political campaign didn't really wrap their brains around social media yet in an organized way" says Kaufeld.

And it's not just candidates hopping aboard the social media train; many voters have willfully gone along for the ride.

"I've seen a lot of people get very local" he says.

During the first presidential debate, Twitter reported that 10.3 million tweets were sent, making it the most tweeted about event in US politics.

The buzz has been prosperous for some candidates, but destructive for some friendships.

"I've seen a lot of friendships get on the rocks" says Kaufeld.

Overwhelming indeed, but just remember...one more day.
