He was in it to win it, but his defeat is providing him with a surprising sense of relief.
"I'm relieved in some senses. They may have done me a favor" says Democratic Indiana State Representative Win Moses.
After nearly 40 years in public service, Moses says he'll likely hang up his political hat.
Last night, the longtime politician was unseated by Republican Martin Carbaugh.
"I certainly would like to congratulate my opponent, he worked hard and I wish him great success in the legislature" Moses tells WFFT today.
Moses served in the Indiana House for the past 20 years. Before that, he served as mayor of
"I've enjoyed it immensely. I loved working with the people" he says.
Moses attributes last night's loss to a few things. First is redistricting.
District 81's newly redrawn legislative maps provided Moses with a challenge
"The redistricting gave me a much more republican area" he says.
Moses was also up against Carbaugh's well-funded campaign.
"(He pulled in) over $250,000 from all over the country. That amount is hard to compete with. I did raise money but couldn't get as much as they did" says Moses.
Moses spent about $150,000.
"The amount that my opponent spent probably totaled the combined amount spent on the previous ten years. The magnitude they were able to achieve was astronomical compared to the past" Moses says.
Moses said he'll likely now focus on the several local businesses he manages. He says he'll also spend more time with his family, and take a much-needed vacation.

The largest single donation to Carbaugh's campaign was $12,000. It was given by the House Republican Campaign Committee.
