A Fort Wayne woman is recovering after she was mauled by a dog in her north-side neighborhood.

It happened on Tuesday afternoon on the 700 block of Kenwood Avenue. Animal control says the bull mastiff/pitbull mix attacked and killed a house cat.

The dog hen ran into the street and began attacking a woman and her dog as she pushed her 2-year-old son in a stroller.

A witness who helped subdue the attacking dog tells WFFT it took at least 15 minutes to get the mastiff under control.

When the fight was over, the woman was transported to the hospital with bites to her hands and arms. The woman's dog was also injured, but is expected to survive.

Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control records show the mastiff, named 'Rello,' had one prior record of attackin livestock in Allen County. They are urging the dog's owner to release custody so it can be euthanized.

Officials say the owner could face up to four charges related to the incident, and up to $2500 in fines.
