A Kosciusko County teen is dead after being hit by a train early this morning.
It happened at the CSX railroad crossing on County Road 1000 north, just south of County Road 1250 near Lake Wawasee.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department says 15-year-old Kalee Skaggs, of Cromwell, lived not too far away from the tracks.
Officials say she was walking by herself just before 3am when she was hit by a freight train.
Skaggs was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Skaggs was a freshman at Wawasee High School.
A source tells WFFT that she had been dealing with a recent death of a loved one.
While Skaggs' death is still being investigated, Sergeant Chad Hill of the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department tells WFFT that no foul play is suspected.
Grief counselors are on hand at Wawasee High School to help students deal with the loss of their friend and classmate.
Skaggs is survived by her parents, three brothers, three sisters and three grandparents.
A memorial service will take place this Saturday, November 17, at 2PM at the Eastland Funeral Home in Syracuse, Indiana. Calling hours will be just prior from noon-2pm.
