Dr. Wendy Robinson will get paid $189,450 this year to oversee Fort Wayne Community Schools. It's a substantial amount, but Robinson could have been received more.

]Tonight, Robinson turned down an over $5000 pay raise.

"From the beginning of my evaluation process, the board and I felt it was important that in my contract process, I model what we were going to be expecting to all the other employee groups" says Robinson.

This year Robinson's base salary will be $180,000. She'll also receive a $9,450 performance bonus, bringing her total salary to nearly $190,000. That's actually less than what she got paid less year. Her base salary is the same, but her bonus is less.

"I just think that you're got to model what you expect from other people" she says.

Robinson's superintendent salary is based upon student growth; that's not growth as in the number of students, but growth in student achievement.

Since growth data from the state wasn't released this year, Robinson says she didn't think it was fair to accept the raise.

"I admire the board for going through this process very openly and publicly with me. It's uncomfortable at times but I don't think that you can talk about holding people accountable and the board not model that" Robinson says.

Even though Robinson oversees the Indiana's largest school district, she isn't the highest paid superintendent in the state. Last year, a superintendent in Clark County was getting paid $225,000. The district there has about 10, 000 students. Fort Wayne Community has over 30,000 students.
