A fire on Fort Wayne's northeast side totaled a family's garage early this morning. Despite losing everything in the blaze, the Fort Wayne couple is optimistic about their next steps.

A Neighbor who lives across the pond from the garage that was on fire called police and even notified the homeowners.

Despite loosing their Christmas tree and a lifetime of valuables, the Shook's say the fire didn't extinguish their outlook on life.

"There are no things that we lost that aren't replaceable there were some sentimental things but certainly nothing that's life changing for us," said Donna Shook.

Harry shook says loosing his garage doesn't compare to the devastation that other people in the country are currently facing

"We can go on with our lives and live a normal life.  We're certainly not like the people out on the east coast suffering from hurricane sandy," said Harry Shook.

The Shook's knew their garage was fully engulfed in flames but didn't realize the true extent of the fire damage until this morning.

"I hadn't seen it because we couldn't see it during the night because it was so dark. And just to look at it was like oh my gosh what happened here," said Donna Shook.

The official cause of the fire is still unknown but the Shook's say they believe it was caused by electrical wiring.  No injuries were reported.
