Kenton Allen Beckman was having his hair cut when a gunman shot him to death and fled.
WFFT spoke with a grocery store employee who says he was feet away when he heard the shots, and saw someone run out after the shooting.
Police say it happened just as kids were leaving the school across the street.
Police are still trying to piece together what happened at the E&M Barber Shop yesterday.
The Coroner's Office says Beckman was shot to death in the shop- inside the Pontiac mall, on the 1100 block of east Pontiac.
"It didn't seem random. It didn't seem random, it seemed like the individual went into this establishment and they sought out who they intended to target. That is what it seems like at this time," says Fort Wayne Police spokesperson Raquel Foster.
Foster says they don't have a description of the suspected shooter- and don't know how the suspect fled the scene.
It happened yesterday afternoon just before four, when the school across the street was letting out for the day.
"There's quite a few people... Not just vehicles, but pedestrians as well... And we're across from a school," foster says.
Khalid Al-Kady works in the grocery store inside the mall.
He says they heard the shots.
"I was inside my office, and that guy, he worked behind the counter, he started calling me, Khalid, Khalid... Because he heard the shooting. Allison, she worked at the deli, and she heard the shooting, like five times shooting inside the barbershop," Al-Kady says.
He says they saw the suspect run out of the mall- too quick to get a description.
"And that guy, he leave, the shooter he leaves, and they guys, they work at the barber shop, they chased him and ran after him, and I went out from my office to see what happened, and those guys were screaming, and we waited for the cops until they come," Al-Kady says.
Police say they are still talking to witnesses.
Inside the mall, the E&M barber shop is closed today, and you could see what appeared to be blood on the floor.
Al-Kady told WFFT he cannot remember something like this happening here before, especially this close to a school.
