Meet Barbara Wright. Aptly named, she proved today she's got the Wright stuff.
"I'm still in shock" Wright says, now that she's $40,000 richer, all thanks to a visit to a Fort Wayne gas station, where inside she bought a Powerball ticket.
"I had to get up at 4 am to go to work, so my husband asked me to check his numbers this morning, so as long as I was checking his, I checked mine. And I went and told him 'um, we need to go down to Indy, I'm calling in sick to work'" she says with a laugh.
Like many across the country, Wright caught the Powerball fever in hopes of winning the record-setting jackpot. Wright matched 4 of the 5 numbers along with the Powerball. But, she added Power Play to the ticket. And it was a good move on her part. That extra dollar increased her winnings from $10,000 to $40,000.
"It's fun to day dream. We never do it thinking 'well we're counting on winning.' It's fun to day dream" Wright tells WFFT.
Forty-thousand dollars is certainly much less than half-a-billion dollars, but Wright says she's satisfied with her prize.
"When I thought about it, $40,000 is probably about the perfect number. It's enough to pay off bills and have a nice Christmas" she says.
