At least four shots were fired in an alley in the Oxford neighborhood- close to a school bus stop.
It happened just before one on the 3400 block between Lillie and Winter Streets.
It's unknown if anyone is hurt.
Many residents say they're uneasy because the neighborhood is full of children.
Residents of Lillie Street say they heard the shots.
"I was sitting in watching TV when I heard about three of four shots go off, you know. So I came to the door and I didn't see nobody," says Joe Smith.
"It was a couple of gun shots here on Lillie Street. Basically it was coming from the alley, you know, here on Lillie Street on the 3400 block," says Vanessa Pearson.
Witnesses say it happened in this alley between Lillie and Winter Streets just before one.
No one came forward to say they saw the shooting, and it's unknown if there are any injuries.
Residents say it makes them wary to hear shots so close to their homes.
"A bit nervous. Yea, it makes me nervous," smith says.
"But you do want do want to be a bit more aware of your surroundings when you hear stuff like that," says Rashad Mayes.
"This is a close-knit neighborhood. I must say that there are some crimes that take place in this neighborhood, but none the less there are families, caring families that does live in this neighborhood," says Shirley Woods.
Woods founded the Euell A. Wilson center nineteen years ago.
She says kids deserve to feel safe when they're outside.
"Kids walk up and down this street all the time. And rightfully so- they live in this neighborhood. But yes, it is unnerving and we're here trying to make a difference in the community," Woods says.
Fort Wayne police did not return our calls about the shooting today.
Just after it happened, several schools in the area were locked down for about a half an hour.
