A Fort Wayne Woman was battered and stabbed this morning at the Gardenview Apartments in The latest apartment complex robbery.

"This is the third reported incident in the Gardenview apartments and we've seen 12 across the city," said Raquel Foster, public information officer with the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The latest happened just after ten this morning at the Gardenview apartments after a resident took her dog for a routine walk.

"This individual watched our victim leave her apartment, watched her as she walked her dogs through the area and was waiting for her to return," said Foster.

The robber forced his way into the victims home, repeatedly hit her in the head, and then stabbed her

"She had a knife nearby for her own personal safety.  Unfortunately, our perpetrator accessed the knife before she did and used it on her," said Foster.

The recent string of robberies have all happened at night but this mornings' robbery broke that mold.  This has  led police to believe that a new robber might be responsible for the robbery.

"We didn't receive information about a vehicle fleeing the area or a person fleeing the area so that leads us to believe we might have a new player," said Foster.

Evan Mower, lives at the Gardenview apartments says the recent attacks have him concerned.

"A lot more thought goes into every routine rather than just walking right into my building," said Mower.

Robin Gill says she couldn't believe how bold today's robber was

"It's a lot scarier knowing that someone is getting enough bravado to go out and attack people in the middle of the day," said Gill.

Police have increased its patrols in those apartments that have already been hit but foster says you are ultimately responsibly for your surroundings.

"We cannot possibly be at every complex and as you saw today the pattern that we were seeing at these apartments was during the evening hours but that didn't hold true today," said Foster.

The victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The crime in Fort Wayne is horrible. What used to be a very safe city is now becoming a slum. If the current police chief and policemen can't do the job - fire them and get someone competent. If the mayor can't get competent law enforcement then let's get a new mayor.
