FORT WAYNE, Indiana - (WFFT) Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly visited Raytheon workers in Fort Wayne on a stop for his "I Work for You" tour.

The purpose of the tour was to listen to Indiana residents and bring their ideas back to Washington D.C. The Senator also spoke about gun control after hearing President Obama's proposal earlier this afternoon.

The senator told WFFT, "I'm a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. At the same time, I'm a dad and every family ought to know that their child who goes to school can come home from school safely."

The senator spoke about mental health issues in relation to gun control and background checks on all gun purchases.

The senator explained, "I think one of the things people have taken a strong look into are the background checks for mental health and for people with felony records, so I think that those are going to be looked at very carefully here."

During his visit to Raytheon, Senator Donnelly thanked workers for their dedication to keeping service men and women safe and boosting Indiana's economy.

The trip today to Fort Wayne was a part of the senator's first tour after being sworn in on Janurary 3rd. Senator Donnelly is known as a "blue dog democrat" for his moderate views on gun control among other issues.
