New Law Would Limit Sudafed Sales

Some Indiana lawmakers are trying to put an end to the state's meth problem. A new bill would further restrict the amount of pseudoephedrine, the active ingredient in Sudafed, that can be sold over-the-counter.

Under the current law, the public is only allowed to by roughly the equivalent of three boxes of Sudafed in a ten day period. The new law would add an anual restriction to that -- the equivalent of 365 pills a year, per person.

The proposal comes in response to a growing methampataimine problem in the Hoosier State. Indiana state police say since 2005, seizures of meth labs have tripled state-wide, with the highest number being found in the Northeast quadrant of the state.

State police estimate at least 65 percent of the pseudoephedrine used in the state goes toward the production of methamphetamine.
