Just like people, in law enforcement no week, no day, not even maybe an hour is ever the same. That's why officers are trained to deal with a variety of issues.

"Every officer has to have the minimum required training per year" says Wabash Police Department Training Officer Chad Galligan.

Currently, Indiana officers learn how to deal with things like autism, mental illnesses and mental retardation. But, Alzheimer's disease isn't one of them. That will likely soon change.

"The better training we get, the better we'll be able to deal with the public" says Galligan.

Last week, the Indiana House approved a bill requiring all Indiana officers to learn how to deal with people with Alzheimer's.

This comes after an officer used excessive force and a Peru, Indiana man. The man had Alzheimer's, became aggressive and was tased several times. That officer was later fired.

The bill next heads to the Indiana Senate for a vote.
