On Thursday, two prayer services were held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Downtown Fort Wayne. Hundreds gathered to pay their respects.
Bishop D'Arcy served the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese for 25 years working as an advocate for the church and mentor to countless members of the clergy.
D'Arcy spent the first half of his career in his native Boston. He gained national attention in 2003 when court documents revealed he was one of the first to alert church officials about child abuse in Boston's Catholic Church.
The Bishop retired in 2009, and was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. He was 80 years old.
