Fort Wayne police are investigating a fatal overnight shooting on the southeast side.

The shooting happened on the 3000 block of McDonald Street.  Neighbors say  this mornings shooting was a first.

"Blew me out of the water.  It's something else when it comes next door to your house," said Doug Johnson.

Johnson lives right next to the house where the shooting happened and he heard it all go down just before 1:30 in the morning.

"I woke up and saw a whole lot of squad cars outside," said Johnson.

"We were in bed and I heard one gunshot, said Dianne Adams.

Neighbors like Adams say the  fatal shooting was  too close to home.

"This is too much for me to handle.  I'm not used to this.  It's a good neighborhood.  It shocked me," said Adams.

"It's scary, first time I've ever seen this in my life 48 years I've been living here," said Johnson.

Johnson knew the victim and says he can't believe his long-time neighbor and friend is now dead.

"I see him everyday being my next door neighbor.  They are pretty good people too me.  I never knew anything like this would ever happen," said Johnson.

Police don't have any suspect information and they don't know the gunman's motive.  If you have any information police are urging you to call crime stoppers at 4-3-6 STOP.
