Allen County officials recently approved the beginning stages of a multi-million dollar project to compeltely rebuild a 4.5 mile stretch of Bass Road. The Bass Road expansion will cost $35 million overall. Officials say this project won't be completed until 2020.

Some residents aren't thrilled about the project. Waine Phillips has lived in his home on Bass Road for over 23 years. He's worried the road expansion will reduce his property value.

"When they had first talked about widening the road my wife and I thought
about selling the house and even moving the house because they've made it into a
truck route now with all the heavy truck traffic coming in front of the house, " said Phillips.

WFFT spoke with Darren Vogt, the president of the Allen County Counci, voted in favor of the project. He says the expansion is necessary to accomidate the growing population and traffic in the area. The Allen County Council voted unanimously to approve the Bass Road Expansion. IM AUDRA STREETMAN FOR WFFT LOCAL NEWS FIRTST AT 10.

Preliminary work is set to begin next year and construction is expected to begin in 2014.
