Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York says He's facing an uphill battle in a city where crime seems to be on the rise.  WFFT caught up with him shortly after the city's 11th homicide this year.

This year Fort Wayne is already on track to hit near record homicide numbers.  Just this week there have been five shootings on the city's south side with four of them being fatal.

So what are our city officials doing to put an end to the violence and encourage the public to cooperate?

We asked Mayor Tom Henry that question.  His only public appearance was at a ribbon cutting to celebrate the construction of a new building downtown.

Both Mayor Henry and Chief York say they are doing a lot that you might not see...working with federal partners and withing with task forces within the city.

But the most important element they say is cooperation from witnesses in the community which is something they don't often get.
